One of the most asked questions besides “What’s For Dinner?” at my house.  My life is organized by a calendar.  I have two that I use, one being my google calendar and the other being the calendar on my refrigerator.  My google calendar is mainly for me because I get alerts about meetings, appointments and practices.  The calendar on my refrigerator is for my family and it fills the need for them to ask me 20 questions about the schedule for the week.  Originally, I had a wall calendar (nothing wrong with that) but I found the refrigerator is what is used the most and it is right there for everyone to see every time they open the refrigerator.

At the end of the month, I fill in the meetings, appointments, practices, birthdays and weekend events for the month.  As things come up, I add it to the calendar to avoid conflicts.  When the 1st of the month rolls around, I tear off the previous month and put it in the very back in case we need to refer to it later.  My daughter always asks me why I just don’t throw it away but more than once, something has come up where I have had to look back at a past date.  I also send a picture copy to Aubry and my husband, Chad so they have it if needed when away from home.

Since I have been using the calendar, I have started highlighting some of the important family events that involve more than one person.  This helps to quickly see what days everyone needs to be free and they know in advance.  I have also started just putting a key word (such as tacos or spaghetti) at the bottom of each day to help me remember what is for dinner that night.  I can quickly remember that it is either a crockpot meal or a meat I need to thaw for that day.  It also helps to avoid, as mentioned before, one of the most asked question, “What’s for Dinner?”.

I know this seems simple but this has been a huge help in my house.  My husband is aware of the days I will be late due to meetings or Aubry knows in advance she has a dentist appointment on a certain day.  AND, I don’t have to hear the same questions over and over.  If you are a mom and or a wife YOU know what I mean.  Please share your ideas related to schedules, etc.  We are always interested in new ideas here at Southern Schoolhouse!

*The calendar I have is in the picture above.  I am sure they have other designs but I liked this one because it fits perfectly on my refrigerator and the entire back is a magnet.  It is also easy to tear and has little plastic corner holders so the page is not sticking out.
