Travel volleyball takes us all over the place. Recently, we flew to St. Louis, Missouri, and it was the first time Aubry had ever flown. Outside of long days at the convention center playing volleyball, we were able to tour around a little bit. We had some great lunch at “Snarf’s Sandwiches” and dinner at “Salt and Smoke” (BBQ and ribs).

One of the main historical landmarks in St. Louis is the Gateway Arch. It stands at 630 feet and is the tallest arch in the world. It was designed by architect Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965. The Arch was built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States and commemorates St. Louis as the “Gateway to the West.”

Because of its location, St. Louis is also known for its severe storms. While we were there, we experienced a frightening one. A hotel full of volleyball players and families had to huddle on the first floor until the storm was over. Luckily, we were not affected by any tornadoes, but surrounding areas definitely were. Even though we did not have a huge success on the volleyball court, this will definitely be a memorable trip.
