I love using these magical counting storybooks by by Amanda Sobotka with my younger students throughout the year! Whether it’s counting pumpkins in a Halloween tale, reindeer at Christmas, leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day, or counting turtles, bulldozers, and fish, these books make learning fun and engaging! Each story features vibrant illustrations and exciting themes that keep kids excited as they count, touch, and explore.
These books provide learning opportunities such as:
- Number Recognition: By counting objects on each page, children learn to recognize numbers 1-10 and understanding of number sequences.
- Subtraction Concepts: Many of these books introduce simple subtraction, such as “counting backwards” or “taking away one,” which helps children understand early math concepts.
- Attention and Focus: The interactive nature of these books requires children to pay attention to details and focus as they count and touch.
- Language and Vocabulary: As children engage with the stories, they expand their vocabulary by learning new words related to each theme, like “leprechaun,” “turtle,” or “bulldozer.”
- Sequencing and Patterns: By seeing numbers in order and counting objects in sequence, children begin to understand the concept of order and patterns.
- Theme Learning: Books that focus on days like Christmas, Halloween, or St. Patrick’s Day offer cultural learning opportunities, introducing children to different traditions and celebrations.
