December is busy and full of excitement, so kids need a predictable, calming routine that works when days/ evenings are unstructured. This 15-minute routine gives kids exactly what they need before bedtime, especially in busy during the holiday rush.
The 15-Minute “Reset & Relax” Routine
1. Five-Minute Reset (Tidy + Prep)
A quick reset helps kids feel organized and lowers morning stress. It also gives kids a sense of control and anchors the start of the routine.
- Put backpacks by the door
- Lay out tomorrow’s clothes
- Toss trash / put toys in a bin
- Pack lunch, water bottle and snack
2. Five-Minute Connection Time
Kids act out more in December because their emotional tanks get empty. Use this short window to reconnect and help them process the day.
- Read a short book/snuggle
- Talk about one good thing + one challenge
- Ask: “What are you excited or worried about tomorrow?”
- Share something silly or sweet from your day
3. Five-Minute Calm Down
This step helps the body shift from “busy mode” to “bedtime mode.”
Options:
- Deep breathing (“smell the cocoa… blow out the candle”)
- Stretching or gentle movement
- Dim lights + soft music
- Favorite stuffed animal, blanket, or weighted pillow
- Kids’ meditation or nature sounds
In only 15 minutes, you can help your child close the day with calm, connection, and confidence for the next morning.
