All of us experience stress at one time or another. Build these simple strategies into your daily routine to reduce the pressures of life.
Sleep:
This is one of the most important things you can do to help with your stress levels. Sleep is healing in so many ways. A lack of sleep can make your stressors seem impossible to get through. Mama always said that things will look better in the morning, she is not wrong. Aim for 8 hours and a solid sleep routine.
Practice Presence:
Being present is easier said then done. So many times our mind wanders thinking about the to do lists, stack of bills, and work obligations. Practicing being present helps to focus on what is directly in front of you verses borrowing trouble from tomorrow. Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own!
Talk to your Friends or Family:
Everyone needs a support system. When you are feeling overwhelmed it is important to talk to a trusted friend or family member. Talking about your stressors and feelings can help to alleviate the burden of carrying them alone.
Do Something you Enjoy:
I love DIY projects. Creating or improving something in my home helps me to tune out the stresses around me and refocus my mind. Find something you love or rekindle a hobby you have set aside. Doing something you enjoy is a perfect distraction for life’s little dips.
Get Outside:
Fresh air and the beauty of nature is a wonderful way to relieve the blues. Gazing up at the trees or across the water always reminds me that I am a part of something bigger than myself. Surrounding myself with nature puts my daily stressors in perspective.
Other Quick Tips to Reduce Stress:
- Drink more water.
- Take your Vitamins and Supplements (I like my magnesium, fish oil, and probiotics.)
- Take Bubble Baths.
- Exercise
- Reduce the clutter around you.
- Replace negative thoughts.
- Delegate household tasks.
- Eat healthy foods.
- Find community. A community organization, group, or church can help to build a support network.
Also remember, if things feel too big for you to handle, seek professional help. You are not alone.
